Cottage Cheese Dip (Best Low-Carb Dip)

Today I decided to let you in on a little secret recipe that’s been a lifesaver on many afternoons and during last-minute gatherings – my ultra-yummy, low-carb Cottage Cheese Dip has saved my life on many an afternoon when I have unexpected guests. I do love it when people stop by to say hello but it means I’m sometimes left scavenging for something in the kitchen to serve them. And this dip has both the kids and the adults coming back for more.

It’s a lot like that Easy Keto Dill Pickle Dip we did awhile back but with less emphasis on the dill part and more on the actual dip. You could even use it instead of the Greek Yogurt Tartar Sauce, which also incorporates garlic and dill. Just like those recipes, this Cottage Cheese Dip is a fantastic accompaniment for all sorts of finger foods. What I really appreciate about this one, though, is that it’s low in carbs and high in protein, so it’s one dip you don’t have to think of as an indulgence. Double-dip all you want (provided you don’t put off your dining companions!).

Why You Should Make This Recipe

  • It’s low in carbs and high in healthy fats and protein, perfect for a keto diet
  • Making it yourself means that you can control what goes into the dip and what flavors you can add.
  • If you have a food processor, you can whip up this delicious dip in no time. Even without one, a hand blender will make quick work of the cottage cheese.

Is This Cottage Cheese Dip Keto?

This dip is a protein-packed powerhouse. It’s also not as fatty as a lot of other dips out there, which is something I think we can all enjoy. The herbs and spices, too, are not just tasty, they’re healthy. And, as carbs are an important consideration when on a keto diet, I should point out this dip doesn’t have enough to impact your lifestyle.

Tips & Tricks

Go for the full-fat variety of cottage cheese (at least 4 % milkfat). It will make the dip super creamy and full of flavor.

Fresh dill is the secret weapon. The dried stuff will do in a pinch but the light and bright taste of the fresh stuff will not go unnoticed.

Set your cottage cheese out at room temperature before blending; it will make things so much easier and make for a really smooth dip.

I mentioned above that, while a blender can do the job, a food processor attains that next-level simplicity and ease.

Make It Your Own: The garlic and onion powders, plus the salt and pepper are how I like it, but that doesn’t mean you will. If you’re all about that extra garlic or maybe not so keen on dill, feel free to experiment. And maybe take a moment to figure out what you’re going to be dipping in it; that might influence just how much of the garlic and dill you add.

Serving Suggestions

You’ve got a ton of options when it comes to dip accessories: cucumber slices, celery, carrot sticks, gluten-free crackers, or even these Keto Tortilla Chips. There are very few foods this dip doesn’t pair with. You can also use it when making this Healthy Broccoli Slaw.

FAQs

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese?

Yes, you can. It won’t be as thick, but Greek yogurt works well.

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes, you can make it a day or two before you want to serve it.

Can I freeze this dip?

Freezing really doesn’t work well for this dip, as the cottage cheese tends to curdle when it thaws.

Can I use other fresh herbs besides dill?

Absolutely! If you don’t like dill (or don’t have any on hand), switch it up with other fresh herbs like basil, chives, or parsley.

How can I make the dip even creamier?

To attain the creamiest consistency, blend your cottage cheese, then add a dollop of Greek yogurt or cream cheese.

Can I substitute onion powder with fresh onions?

Sure! Grate your onion finely if you like things smooth. Just a heads-up: fresh onions pack more punch, so adjust accordingly.

Can I use low-fat or non-fat cottage cheese for this recipe?

Sure thing, you can swap out the full-fat cottage cheese with its low-fat or non-fat cousins. But keep in mind, it might not be as creamy and rich.

Variations

  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for a kick of heat.
  • Experiment with different herbs like basil, parsley, or chives to enhance the flavor profile.
  • Mix in some finely chopped celery or cucumber for added texture and freshness.

How to Store

Making this dip ahead is not just okay, it’s actually awesome. Giving it some chill time lets the flavors get cozy and mingle. Tastes even yummier that way.

Got leftovers? No worries! Pop them into an airtight container and into the fridge they go. They’ll stay good for around a week. When you’re ready to serve again, just scoop and savor at your own pace. Enjoy!
