Wondering what keto-friendly dish to serve at BBQs or for game day when the gang come over? Or maybe you’re looking for a delicious, meaty entrée for the whole family. Either way, this recipe is your answer.

Pork is naturally keto friendly, being high in protein but low in carbs and sugars. And we make this dry so there is no high-sugar sauce to complicate matters (though I do recommend a sugar-free sauce below, if you must have sticky ribs).

Why You Should Make This Recipe

  • Great for a busy day as it really doesn’t require a lot of prep but delivers a lot of flavors.
  • By using boneless pork ribs, you are using a leaner cut of meat compared to traditional ribs.
  • These ribs are a perfect snack for game day or a party.

Is This Keto?

Yes, this recipe can be considered keto. Boneless pork ribs are a good source of protein and healthy fat. Speaking of which, the olive oil used is also a healthy fat and so, is keto friendly. Where you could run into problems is if you use a barbecue sauce, which typically contains a lot of sugar and/or molasses. It is important, to keep this meal within your dietary restrictions, you choose a sugar-free barbecue sauce. Otherwise, stick with how the recipe is laid out (i.e., BBQ spice only, no sauce).

What Do I Need To Make Pork Ribs?

So simple and yet so tasty. Only the ribs and the oil are required for cooking; the salt, pepper, and spice are all for flavor.

  • 2 lbs boneless pork ribs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp BBQ spice

Variations

  • You can use different spice blends, like Cajun seasoning, garlic, and herb, or Asian-inspired flavors.
  • Brush the ribs with a keto-friendly BBQ sauce or glaze during the last few minutes of baking for sticky ribs.

FAQs

My dish tastes bland. What did I do wrong?

You can be really generous with the BBQ spice on this one. I would add quite a bit. If you really want loads of flavour add a BBQ sauce.

How can I make the ribs more tender?

You can marinate the boneless pork ribs in a mixture of olive oil, spices, and a little acid-like vinegar for a few hours before baking. The acid helps to tenderize the meat, but don’t let it marinate longer than a few hours or the meat may fall apart.

Can I use a different cut of pork instead of boneless pork ribs?

Yes, just remember cooking times will change depending of the cut and size.

Which sugar-free BBQ sauce would you recommend?

I like the G. Hughes brand of sauces.

How to Store Pork Ribs

Let the ribs cool completely. Wrap each rib separately in aluminum foil then place them all in an airtight container. You can also use resealable bags. The key is to allow the ribs enough room so they don’t get squished. They should keep for up to 4 days in the fridge. They will also last for up to 3 months in the freezer. When you’d like to reheat them, let the ribs thaw overnight in the fridge if they were frozen. Warm them in the oven at 325°F for 15-20 minutes.
