Can we all agree that ranch dressing is the queen bee of salad dressings? Thank the keto heavens that ranch dressing is keto friendly. If I’m being totally honest, I eat at certain restaurants solely for their ranch dressing and I have zero shame about that fact.
I know there are some hardcore ranch devotees out in the interwebs. You have #teamhiddenvalley and #teamkraft. Then there are the natural, organic, and preservative free options that are always so conveniently located next to the produce.
Personally, I haven’t ever found a store bought ranch dressing that I just love. They either taste like chemicals or straight mayonnaise to me. And soooo many of them are made with buttermilk. Buttermilk = carbs, fyi.
I’m also not crazy about ingredient lists that are a mile long. It takes more effort (and money) to eat clean but I do try really hard to eliminate as much “junk” as I can. However, playing Devil’s advocate, I do make some exceptions if there isn’t an easy or available substitute. My Mississippi Pot Roast is a tasty example.
I believe eating clean is a personal choice too. If you’re brand new to keto and just trying to figure out how to eliminate carbs and sugar from your diet, it can feel really overwhelming to try and make every purchase ‘clean’ too! Trust me, I was there. But what I’ve found the longer I’ve lived this ketogenic lifestyle is that there is a natural progression to eliminate the junky stuff and intentionally eat clean.

Circling back to this recipe: that is why I make so many sauce and dip recipes. So many store-bought dressings are just full of crap. Hydrogenated oils, sugar, preservatives…oh my! Yes, even your beloved Hidden Valley. If you’d told me five years ago that there would come a day I started making my own dressing, I’d have committed you to a looney bin!
It should also come as no surprise that I’m sharing a recipe for keto ranch dressing with you since I have kind of become known for my sauces and dips. So, since I can’t buy my favorite dressings by the gallon from various restaurants, I decided to make my own.
This keto ranch dressing is crazy easy to make and cost effective! Oh, and did I mention this is a zero carb ranch dressing?! You get a bit of tang from the dijon mustard that would typically come from buttermilk. And the classic herby flavor comes from the garlic and dill. If you’re a ranch dressing connoisseur such as myself, I think you’re going to love my Dairy Free Keto Ranch Dressing!
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 1/4 + 1/8 teaspoons dried dill
- 1/4 +1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- pinch of salt & pepper
- 2 to 3 tablespoons water (or more if desired)
- Add all ingredients to a small bowl. Whisk until combined.
- Store in airtight container up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Omit water for a thicker dip style ranch. Add more water for a thinner dressing.
